Chido Nyaruwata is a writer, digital storyteller, and photographer who is based in Harare, Zimbabwe.
My work explores the interconnectedness of humans and the natural world and the ways in which we are both shaped by our environments. I am drawn to the power of stories to connect us to each other and to the natural world, and I believe that storytelling is a powerful tool for social change.
I use photography, writing, and podcasting to capture the aura of environments and to give voice to the stories of people and animals. I am particularly interested in exploring the experiences of women and girls in the natural world, and in using my work to challenge stereotypes and promote environmental justice.
I believe that art has the power to change the world, and I am committed to using my work to raise awareness of environmental issues and to inspire people to take action.
In 2022, I was awarded the Ufahamu Africa Podcast Fellowship.
In 2021, my mobile film Food Security and Waste Management in Harare, was shortlisted at the United Nations-affiliated international short film competition, the Earthbeat Challenge. The film was played during a side event at COP 26 in Glasgow, UK.
